The Bible: Predictions Come True

By Wilma Melendez

Many people scoff at the Bible because it says that God created life, yet if we look at NASA’s search for life, we see the creation story has a lot of scientific truth. The Bible has preceded many scientific discoveries. The Bible even predicted the Chernobyl disaster.

Many scientists doubt the Bible, before I tell about the future prophecies, I would like to digress and write about the Bible’s record of reliability. It took scientists centuries to discover the conditions necessary for life to be sustained: water, light and atmosphere. But in the Bible’s story of creation, the requirements are all there, written thousands of years before science began.

The Bible says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth, and the Earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was upon the face of the waters. In this passage, “the deep” and the waters refer to the ocean which covered the whole Earth. “And God said, “Let there be light, and there was light.” (Genesis 1:1-3) and God created light. Water and light are two conditions that are necessary for any life form. Then the Bible says that God separated the waters below form the water above. That is, he made clouds, and he made an atmosphere. This Biblical quote was written long before science existed. The Bible is far ahead of its time.

Some scientists reject the Bible, but they are looking for life in other planets based upon the same principles that are written in the Bible. Scientists want to explore the moon Europa, one of Saturn’s ice-covered moons to see if there is life underneath its ice-covered surface. This mission will take place many years from the time of this writing because the ice is 16 km thick, and they need samples beneath that layer. But it will reveal whether there is an ocean beneath the tough exterior and if there are microorganisms. Biologists and Astronomers believe that life on Earth would be like life on Earth, and that it begins with unicellular organisms.

Here on Earth, scientists have discovered that there are microorganisms living in the extreme conditions of the water below Antarctica. According to NASA, there are undersea volcanoes on Earth that create environments that can sustain rich colonies of microbes (from the article “Divining Water on Europa” found at http://science.msfc.nasa.gov/newhome/headlines/ast09sep991.htm. ). This is possible because light reaches through the transparent ice. Based on these findings, they believe life could exist on Europa, an ice covered body. Many of them do not admit that the Bible says life began with a planet covered by water and that God made life.

Those who believe that God did not make life, that life began spontaneously by itself in a “primordial soup”, are rejecting that law which is basic to science and to rational thinking. I learned that Pasteur discovered even if you have the right conditions to support life, life will not spontaneously begin to exist. Before his discovery, people thought that life would exist anywhere out of the blue. He sterilized a container and the people expected that microorganisms would grow like mold or bacteria. But they did not grow at all. Pasteur taught us sterilization. Pasteur’s discovery led to our bathing and to doctors sterilizing surgery implements. Without this law, (that life does not exist spontaneously), we would still be ignorant and in the dark ages of lack of hygiene and infant medicine.

The Bible has proven itself in the past. Consider how the Book of Revelation predicted the Chernobyl disaster. Christian news analyst Jack Van Impe tells how the name for Chernobyl translated from the Ukrainian is called “Wormwood” in English. The Bible says, “And the third angel sounded and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountain of the waters; And the name of the star was Wormwood: and a third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters because it became bitter.” Revelation 8:10-11. A star in this passage refers to nuclear energy. The Chernobyl disaster was predicted in God’s book before people knew what radiation was.

The Bible speaks to our time, prophesizing a time of great tribulation in which the sun will darken. There are two scientific theories of how that could happen in the near future. Jesus said, “Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heaven shall be shaken.” (Mathew 24:29). First, Many Christians believe that the “stars from heaven” refers to missiles carrying multiple warheads launched into the sky. (In this passage, “heaven” is in lowercase, referring to the sky). According to scientists, a nuclear war could cause so much dust to be put into the atmosphere, that the sun could be unable to give its light, leading to the coldness of a nuclear winter.

Secondly, other Christians do not believe there will be a nuclear war. Nevertheless, they point out that the sun could stop shining for other reasons. Scientists have noticed that the amount of sun spots is increasing. Astronomists fear that if this trend continues, the sun could stop giving Earth most of its light. Both scientific theories, the nuclear winter theory and the increased sun spot theory, confirm Jesus’ words to us.

Many Christians who study the Bible are sure that we can escape from that terrible time by believing in Jesus. The Bible is a book of hope. These Christians are expecting Jesus to appear and take the believers with him to safety. “When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory” (Colossians 3:4). At the beginning of the book of Revelation, before the tribulation begins, it is written “behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him…” In the end, no matter what happens, believers will go to heaven and have eternal happiness.

Some scientists mock the Bible, its miracles and revelations because they do not understand how they can occur. Those scientists do not know yet that God made all things and can do anything, our mind can not understand. However, the more that is discovered about nature, the more realistic that the stories of the Bible seem. The majority of scientists believe in God, perhaps precisely because so much of nature is unfathomable and unexplainable, and so far God’s prophecies have come true. The accuracy of the Bible thus far is a lesson for us to read and study the Bible, as important or more as reading the news, to know what is likely to happen and how we can be saved.

You may be thinking that you want to know more about the topics in this article. You may want to read books about “apologetics”, which is the explanation of how the Bible is correct despite rationalist and scientific objections. And you may be curious about prophecy, I recommend “The Merciful God of Prophecy: His Loving Plan for You in the End Times”.

Kitchen Lighting Design – The 4 Types Of Lighting You Should Have

By Lee Dobbins

For many people the last thing they will think about when thinking of redecorating their kitchen is the type of kitchen lighting design that they want and normally this the first thing that they will cut from their budget. But if you want your kitchen and function well then good lighting is a must. A good kitchen lighting design plan will blend into the architectural and decorative details of the room.

When it comes to uses lights in a kitchen the most common mistake made by many people is that they try to light the entire room by just using a ceiling mounted fixture. But unfortunately this will results in the room being visually overpowered by the light fixture and even recessed lighting isn’t much better.

Therefore plan for the layered look and kitchen that is well lit will layer and blend 4 different kinds of lights and any kitchen redesign or remodel or new build should include the following:-

1. Task Lighting. This is the workhouse element of kitchen lighting and will provide adequate light for when you are chopping vegetables or reading recipes. The optimum place for such lighting is between a person’s head and the actual work surface (and that is why lighting located below cabinets on the walls are very effective).

2. Ambient Lighting. This will create a warm glow to your kitchen and will fill the room as well as soften shadows and makes those entering the kitchen feeling instantly welcome. If you have cabinets which do not reach up to the ceiling then ambient lighting can be placed there. Of the four kinds of lighting you can include in your kitchen ambient is the most overlooked.

3. Accent Lighting. This will give depth and dimension to any kitchen and accent lighting is those fixtures which are placed inside a glassed front cabinet in order to illuminate the china, glassware or collectibles that are contained within it. Also recessed and adjustable low voltage fixtures used as spotlight art can be used as accent lighting.

4. Decorative Lighting. This type of lighting will add a sparkle to any space.

However when planning a kitchen lighting design is best if you plan ahead and you don’t have the money in your budget then install a series of pendants in the room but whilst the remodeling work is being carried out also have three junction boxes installed. Thus when you have the money available to purchase fixtures at a later date they can be easily added to your kitchen.

Lighting Q&A: Lighting And Light Bulb Basics

By Larry Tibbets

* What are the different types of lighting?

The different types of lights are incandescent, tungsten-halogen, compact fluorescent lamps, tubular fluorescent fixtures, and HID (high-density discharge).

•Incandescent lights have a relatively short life. They can only withstand between 1000 and 3000 hours of continuous use. They are also the least efficient source of regular lights.

•Tungsten-halogen are lights that belong to cateogyr of incandescent lamps. They have become gradually popular in recent years. They generate a white light with more intense standards.

•Dense florescent lights are a kind of fluorescent light but generate color more similar to some incandescent lamps. They combine the standard features of other lights.

•Tubular fluorescent lights are in tubular shape. They have a smaller diameter but are more efficient compared to other lights. They have a magnetic ballast that the lightning features depend upon.

•HID is a type of light that has a high output of light. Its components are mercury, metal halide, vapor and high pressure of sodium lighting.

* What are the different kinds of fixtures?

An extensive diversity of fixtures is available for different purposes. In general, fixtures are practical, versatile, presentable, and durable to make the interior design colorful.

The three main groups of fixtures are end piece fixtures, ceiling lights fixtures, and landscape fixtures.

•End piece fixtures have a design to work with solid standard cable wire.

•Ceiling light fixtures are handled with modified cable with larger diameter and capacitors.

•Landscape fixtures are used for giving colors and additional attraction for the background of landscape.

* What is a fluorescent light?

A fluorescent light produces energy from the atom. It is composed of many small particle pockets that expand to cause momentum. The basic unit of lights in flourescent is “light photons.”

Atoms discharge light photons when the electrons heat up. The electrons travel around certain orbit to increase the net charge and produce energy levels. After that light is produced from the nucleus.

* What is incandescent light?

Incandescent lights produce light by a shimmering filament. The filament is heated by white-hot electric current. Incandescence is the light-giving method. A glass container or lamp encloses the bulb.

It normally has a vacuum with a low-pressure to produce oxidation of filament with a high temperature.

* What is halogen?

Halogen can provide brilliant illumination by the use of electric current to heat the filament of metal and tungsten until it burns. Halogen has a filament inside a container or envelope.

A halogen lamp works much the same way as an incandescent lamp. On the other hand, the chemical reactions between halogen lamps are proficient and brighter than incandescent lamps.

Indoor Lighting Can Change Your Mood: A Brief Science of Lighting

By Josh Little

Like anything that we have discovered in the past, are discovering now, or will discover, there is a science to lighting. It is true that many people shop for indoor lighting based off of aesthetic qualities alone, but it goes well beyond that. Buying effecting indoor lighting products is not just about shelling out the most money either. Daylight can be just as effective as an indoor lighting tool as any product created by a popular manufacturer. And like painting the walls of a prison pink, smartly placed, well designed, indoor lighting can improve the mood of anyone in your home.

Dark, gloomy corners of your house can easily be righted with a simple lamp. It is not because dark, gloomy corners are illegal, or immoral, but rather well-lit areas have been scientifically and psychologically proven to increase mood and cognitive performance among both sexes. Indoor lighting takes you one step closer to being a superhuman.

It turns out that people are pretty similar to moths–yes, the things you swat away from your indoor lighting. We are naturally prone to go to an area with more light as opposed to one that has none. Indoor lighting becomes increasingly important with this knowledge. We want our family and guests to be drawn to rooms, especially where group activities are performed. Your living room or entertainment room or even your screened-in back porch, they all need adequate and well-placed indoor lighting to draw the moths in.

Lighting a public room effectively, rather than bathing a room in illumination by putting a pile of lamps and ceiling fans in the center, is all about illuminating the walls. Like the morbid curiosity involved with car crashes, people like to observe when trying to relax, not participate. In other words, they like to see brightness rather than sitting enveloped in it. So, for a relaxed setting, instead of the usual main lighting that comes from the ceiling, wall-mounted indoor lighting is a better choice here.

Desk lamps are not a fluke: people concentrate and mentally perform better when equipped with adequate lighting. You do not want something with the intensity of a lighthouse, but you also do not want candle light; too much light may cause reflection off of whatever you are concentrating on, and too little will not be enough to allow you to focus. Indoor lighting can increase your mental power…think about it. It has been proven that people change body posture almost subconsciously when presented with unpleasant lighting.

Even those with businesses or large warehouse rooms can benefit from indoor lighting. For spacious and wide areas, it’s best to use high levels of illumination in the entire area, mostly where work and activities are being done. This provides a visually clear and productive environment.

Art galleries are the most apparently effective at utilizing simple indoor lighting. Placing ambient lighting on the wall, just enough to allow the viewers to see everything clearly, while additionally situating accent lighting around the art works will focus everyone in on the art. Even the occasional chandelier you see can be an intentional focus, a secondary artwork.

Beautiful Lighting Tips 101 – A Crash Course In Lighting Design

By Brian Starr

Many people cannot immediately identify why they may like or dislike a particular room or interior. Proper lighting and illumination is the single most critical factor in designing a pleasing interior environment. A successful lighting design is pleasing to the eye, focuses attention on key room features and eliminates shadows and “hot spots”. There are several lighting applications that can be used to meet specific lighting needs or to achieve a desired special effect.

GENERAL or AMBIENT LIGHTING refers to an even overall level of light provided to make a room or space comfortable and safe for its intended use. Recessed lighting is very popular as a general lighting source. Recessed lighting may be in the form of 3″ to 8″ diameter “can” type fixtures consisting of a “trim” and a “housing.” Recessed “trims” are the visible portion of the recessed light fixture and are available in hundreds of styles and colors to control the spread of light, reflect the light and/or match a particular decor or theme. The “housing” is the actual enclosure that is installed into the attic and connected to the power system. Different housings are available for new construction and remodel construction where attic access is difficult. Where recessed lighting may be in contact with building insulation, an “IC” rated housing is required to prevent a potential fire hazard. In may office environments, general lighting is provided in the form of luminous fluorescent ceiling panels.

TASK LIGHTING typically refers to the higher level of light provided on work areas such as kitchen islands, countertops and desks. Additional light is directed to these areas using recessed, track or pendant fixtures. Concealed under-cabinet lighting is also frequently used by lighting designers to provide task illumination without seeing the source (fixture). Fixtures with either low or line-voltage halogen or xenon bulbs provide a whiter, warmer light than fluorescent under-cabinet lighting. 5 watt xenon or halogen lamps spaced 6 inches apart are suitable for most task lighting purposes where the fixture is within 24″ of the work surface. Whether recessed, track or under-cabinet style, low voltage halogen or xenon lighting fixtures are smaller than line voltage lighting but require a transformer to change the voltage from 120 volt to 12 volt. The transformer is included inside many low voltage fixtures but is also sometimes separate depending on the particular fixture and style.

ACCENT LIGHTING. To be effective, accent lighting should be approximately four times the level of ambient (background) light in an area. Focusing light on an “accented object” or “area” draws attention to a picture, vase or other focal point. Here again. Halogen lighting type fixtures provide a whiter, brighter appearance than standard incandescent or fluorescent type fixtures. The selected fixture should be directional, either a swivel or gimbal type fixture to aim the light exactly where it is needed. Adjustable surface mount fixtures, track fixtures and even recessed style fixtures are available with “aimability” in mind. For a dramatic museum-type effect, some fixtures can include a focusing lens for pinpoint accuracy. The “Lighting Illumination” PDF attached to this file is a good guide for estimating the illumination or brightness of various bulb types and wattages.

WALL WASHING is a type of Accent Lighting that creates an area of uniform illumination that may desirable for a series of photos or artwork. Wall Washing reduces the texture of the wall surface. Often the reflected light can create ambient light in the remainder of the room that is pleasing and restful. WALL GRAZING is opposite from Wall Washing in that it creates a dramatic highlight and shadow effect on surfaces such as draperies, stone or brick. Ceiling light fixtures for Wall Grazing are placed closer to the wall than Wall Washing in order to highlight the three-dimensional effect.

DISPLAY LIGHTING consists of small low voltage lighting fixtures to illuminate cabinets displaying keepsakes, ornaments, dinnerware etc. Many under-cabinet fixtures (as described above) are suitable for display lighting. Small space xenon fixtures used on a “Mini” or “Linear” track have unparalleled design flexibility. Tiny fixtures may be spaced anywhere along the track making it possible to create an even distribution or highlight task areas. Lamp choices from 3W to 20W allow illumination levels from a subtle glow to a brilliantly lit area. A “Light Baffle” often serves as a holder for the track and as a visual shield, concealing the halogen or xenon bulbs. An innovative use of the baffle is as a rigid support, such as spanning the edge.

COVE LIGHTING gives a room a more open appearance by illuminating the perimeter of the room where the walls meet the ceiling. A large crown mold or soffit is built around the perimeter of the room providing a concealed space for a continuous halogen or xenon track lighting. Cove lighting looks best with a smooth, even wash of light. Fixtures should be placed at least 4″ from the wall with 6″ to 9″ being ideal to minimize scalloping. The ceiling height above the lamps should be not more than twice the distance from the wall. The lamp spacing and wattage will depend on distance and brightness level desired. For a medium light level, a good starting point is with 5-watt lamps spaced 6″ on center, with a track spaced 6″ from the wall and 10″ from the ceiling. From this reference point you can design the light level up or down as desired. A room with a dark ceiling, or a brightly lit room may need a higher light level.

Lighting that is thoughtfully considered can make a world of difference and will be an improvement that lasts for many years. Many home improvement stores include sample displays of the various lighting systems and fixtures mentioned above. As with most appliances and electronics, there is a wide variety in the quality of lighting fixtures available. Be sure your purchase is from reputable well known company with fixtures that are either UL or ETC listed. There are numerous online retailers that offer name brand fixtures delivered to your door at very competitive prices.

Which Energy Saving Light Bulbs And LED Bulbs are best?

The advancement in lighting technologies now means that there are a spectrum of energy saving light bulbs and LED bulbs available to purchase which can make it difficult to decide which ones are right for your application. The array of energy saving light bulbs and LED bulbs use an assortment of technologies, specifically, LED, Halogen and CFL all of which have special characteristics and energy saving abilities. In this article I will provide a resume of the available technologies for energy saving light bulbs and LED bulbs that is expected to enable you to make a more informed choice.
The Halogen Bulb
Halogen bulbs are the modern day’s equivalent of the incandescent filament light bulb that was first brought to market by Edison greater than 100 years ago. The incandescent light bulb was as a matter of fact invented by Thomas Edison about 1879. Most halogen energy saving light bulbs and LED bulbs save more than 25% in electricity costs and the greater part are compatible with dimmer switches. Additionally, halogen energy saving light bulbs and LED bulbs employ miniature technology which means the bulbs can be made small and with gratifying aesthetics.
CFL Light Bulbs
The CFL energy saving light bulbs and LED bulbs is in essence a little fluorescent tube and has awesome efficiency saving 75-80% in electricity. The technology has developed a lot from the initial CFL’s and good ones do not flicker and they attain full brightness pretty quickly. The main drawback of the CFL energy saving light bulbs and LED bulbs is that its appearance can be poor, particularly where the fluorescent tubes are evident, but there are some very great looking spherical shaped CFL’s available.
LED Light Bulbs
LED light bulbs are the ideal type of energy saving light bulbs and LED bulbs. When compared to orthodox light bulbs then LED’s is going to provide approximately a 90% energy saving. Also LED bulbs have an extremely long life and their particularly low energy consumption means that CO2 emissions are minimised making the LED light bulb the favorite green choice. The final matter is the visual appearance and the high technology look of the energy saving light bulbs and LED bulbs has the ability to look very good with contemporary interiors, but if yours is traditional then choose wisely.

The importance of light colour in energy saving light bulbs and LED bulbs

From the inception of light bulbs in the late 19th century up till the last 2 decades the colour of light developed by light bulbs has always been identical. The eleictrical current flowing through the filament gets it white hot and this results in a yellowish light colour. Now in present time with the current technology in energy saving light bulbs then they can be produced with a whole range of distinctive shades of white ranging from a warm yellowish colour to a cool blue white colour. So life has got more complex again! Previously there was just one option but how there are a wide range of variations to mull over to pick the right one for a living area or a kitchen.
Now with the vast range of Halogen Bulbs, CFL’s and LED Bulbs there is the opportunity for choice.
In order to allow you to select the right energy saving light bulbs I will explain in more depth what colour-temperature is and how this technological progression can be exploited.

Detail behind colour temperature for energy saving light bulbs.

The appropriate measure for light colour is colour temperature and the measure used is Kelvin ranging from 2700K to 6400K (Kelvin). The acknowledged way of designating light colour is to use the colour temperature indicator in the range from 2700-6400Kelvin (K). Steel when heated to temperatures between 2700K and 6400K will originally turn yellowish and then through red and white to blue.
