Let’s take 2008 Honda Civic changing the license plate lights to LED for instant.

Step 1: visit Osram Sylvania Lamp Replacement Guide to figure out the license plate light bulb’s part number. You can easily find Osram bulb guide on Google and select the 2008 Honda in the made and year and choose Civic on the next page. Submit the selection and you will see the page with all the lights (lamps) with the part # listed out.

This page is very messy with lots of information such as bulb part number, and descriptions. All you need to do is to scroll down to the License Plate Lights and write down the numerical part number which is 168 in this case study.

Step 2: after you find out which bulb size you need, time to determine the type of LED light bulbs will work better for the license plate lights. There are two types of LEDs, the conventional refractor LED bulbs and the latest new SMD/SMT (Surface Mounting Device or Surface Mounting Technology) LED bulbs.

The refractor LEDs have water drop like plastic refractors on the top of the light emitter, used for concentrating the light. Because of this characteristic, it has very narrow angle for the light emitting. Because of this, the refractor LE.D. is often used as spot lights and its light angle is no more than 150-degree.

On the other hand, the latest SMD/SMT LEDs have flat emitting surfaces. The flat surface has a much wider angle to emit a nice flooding light and it is also relatively brighter than refractor LEDs. Also because of SMD LED is easier to assemble onto the PCB circuit board, the lighting angle can reach an amazing full 360-degrees.

Base on the differences of these two kinds of LED lights, if you are using the LEDs to replace the stock side marker lights or parking lights, the refractor LEDs will suit better because of its concentrated lighting that can shine a further distance.

In contrast, when replacing the stock license plate lights or interior map reading lights with LED lights, the SMD LEDs will work better because of its brighter and flooding lighting.

Therefore, for the license plate lights, we will choose the brighter and wider angle SMD over the refractor. Step 3: after the decision of LED bulb size and LED bulb type, let’s move to the final step for the LED bulb color.

According to US traffic law and regulation, for car exterior, the Xenon White color not only applies with the regulation, but also light up brighter over Ultra Blue or Brilliant Red.

For the car interior, since there is no regulation at. You can choose any colors, just to express your personality and set the accent mood however you like.

On iJDMTOY, we carry varieties of LED bulbs in many color selections. You will for sure find the best fitting LED lights here like LED license plate lights, LED strip lights and more! and more!

Fun Uses For Light Bulbs

By David Sanders

We all know what light bulbs are, how they were invented and where to buy them. In an effort to avoid repeating the same information that other lighting related articles discuss, this feature will discuss some of the fun uses for light bulbs and why they are often much more than just a bulb.

$Science Projects. If your child is in school, one of the most enjoyable science assignments he/she will have is to create a project that will be judged on it’s appearance, research and facts. This assignment, called a science project, is entered into a science fair and judged against all other entries. At the conclusion of the competition, awards are given to the best projects before they continue on the national competition. A popular science project would be a feature on light bulbs, which could showcase the invention process and how lighting has changed the world as we know it. One of the popular categories could feature different types of bulbs and how they are used, including standard lighting and those used for decorative themes and holidays.

$Creating Your Own Lamps. Whether you are a crafter for fun or profit, creating your own lamps can be a terrific way to earn some extra money or simply decorate your home using a one-of-a-kind creation. Many people find that a hand-carved wooden lamp shade provides a beautiful effect. Once designed and made, a light bulb would be placed into the lamp as it would with a traditional retail product. When the light is turned on and the color shines through the carefully crafted wooden cutout design, the lighting effect will be a real treat. An example would be a wooden shade with carefully cut shapes of a deer, dolphin or other popular animal. When lit, these handcrafted beauties add much more than just a source of light. In fact, they add a unique touch to any room in the home.

$Add A Splash Of Color To Your Room. Light bulbs are often available in a variety of colors, which can be a nice change from the standard clear lighting source. Using different colors in lightbulbs can add a real touch of whimsy to your room and can be a nice coordinating element to your custom decor.

When using or working with light bulbs, it’s important to keep in mind that they are very fragile and can be dangerous if broken. Children should not be allowed to handle them without adult supervision. When it comes to the little ones, safety comes first as they are the true light in our lives.

Led Light Bulbs & Led Lamps

By Russell Neal

Led light bulbs will one day become the dominant source of lighting on the planet–if not the exclusive source. They solve a multitude of economic and environmental problems that have plagued and continue to plague users of other types of lamps. The reason for this lies in the manner in which a led bulb generates light. Unlike incandescents and fluorescent bulbs, a led light does not utilize a filament or any type of luminary gas. Instead, led lighting bulb technology is based on something completely different–a semi conductive component known as a “diode.” By passing a low voltage current through a diode, one can agitate electrons within its composite substances, causing light to radiate into the surroundings. This light is cool burning and will not cause heat pollution in work and living areas. Because these bulbs do not rely on inert gases of any kind, they pose no threat to the environment, and the substances of which they are composed are virtually unbreakable compared to standard lamps.

Led light bulbs offer every color in the rainbow now to both home and commercial users. A led’s color directly results from the chemical composition of the diode itself. The most recent breakthrough came a few short years ago, when Chinese scientists learned to mix blue and yellow in the precise combination necessary to create a white LED. Previous to this advancement, led light bulbs always represented a primary color, and as such were very useful for display, indicator, and instrument lighting, but not yet ready to replace incandescents whose bright white light established them long ago as the world’s primary source of artificial lighting. When white led bulbs entered the lighting market, an explosion in size, design, modification, and engineering followed as lighting manufacturers immediately saw the benefits of creating alternatives to previous technologies and seizing the opportunity of the moment to pass on both green technology and cost-conscious savings to corporate and individual clients. Not long after these developments occurred, California passed a law that now requires all incandescent lights be replaced no later than 2010, making retrofitting a legal matter at this point for West Coast residents as well as a cost and earth conscious decision.

Linear strip lights utilize a bulb type known as “festoon,” and many high-end resorts, casinos, and country clubs in California use festoon bulbs for both seasonal and year round decorations. With a ban on incandescents now pending, corporations and individuals alike in California will now have to look for retrofitted alternatives if they are currently using any type of incandescent festoon light source. This is not as big a problem as it may sound, nor is it expensive when one considers ROI beyond up front procurement costs.

In an era where concern over global warming is approaching the level of worldwide alarm, now more than ever is a time to consider going “green,” not necessarily in terms of the color of a led light bulb, but in terms of its innate quality and value. It never hurts a company’s public image to promote itself as a leader in newer, more efficient forms of non-destructive power. Furthermore, led lights feature a bulb life that ranges from 30,000 bulb hours to over 100,000 bulb hours. Replacements are very rare, and therefore, seldom a cost factor to consider when forecasting budget. Immediate return on the front-end investment one makes in begins to accrue monthly on every subsequent power bill post retrofitting date. This is truly a win-win scenario for anyone.

Modern Floor Lamps Such As Lava Lamps

By Mr.Andrew Caxton

What lava lamps are. Their popularity from years ago in the sixties and seventies. Lava lamps are coming back.

The era of the sixties and seventies will not go down in history as the era of good taste. But among all the crazy trends of those decades is one that I still hold a fond remembrance for: the lava lamp. If you are too young to remember lava lamps. I’ll describe one. Picture a wiggly glass tube. filled with slimy liquids that are in the most incredible colors of purple. neon green. hot pink. etc. Lumps of some blobby material floated through this mass of color as it undulated in the tube. Sounds lovely. no? Yet. whenever I was around a lava lamp. I would be mesmerized by the slowly swirling colors and the floating blobs. I found it very relaxing and would further enhance this experience with the aroma of joss sticks and the sound of sitar music. I felt that lava lamps were a harmless way to relax and chill out.

Lava lamps are still available today. and I imagine they are being purchased by children of the sixties to recreate that era or by young people of today who enjoy a retro look. Despite their inherent ugliness. I still find them relaxing and oddly comforting. Maybe I equate them with an age when I was still young. optimistic and had dreams. I have even considered buying one. knowing full well that it would clash with everything in my home. I don’t know how I would explain it to my cool. Ikea-decorated friends. The appeal of contrast? An ironic comment? In thinking about it. I realize it would not be such a good idea. Back in those days. I could afford to sit aroud in a dreamlike state; today. I have way too much to do. The modern version of the lava lamp is the Plasma Lamp. They do not have the appeal of lava lamps to me. They seem like something out of a science lab or clinical experiment. Lava lamps have a personal appeal. almost with a soul of their own. The best ones were the purple ones. especially if viewed while listening to Jimi Hendrix’ Purple Haze. I believe you can make a valid character judgement about someone based on their preferred lava lamp color. Some psychologist should conduct a study on it.

The lava lamp was invented by Craven Walker. and it is rumored that. like most great inventions. like vulcanization and post-it notes. it came about by accident. He was certainly not aware that he invented the symbol of a culture and an era. Even though lava lamps are intended to be fun. make sure you read any of the warning labels on a lava lamp. One impatient (and stupid) man failed to do this. with dire consequences. In 2004. this young gentleman bought a lava lamp and wanted it to start its bubbling twists and turns right away. Instead of waiting for it to warm up normally. he put it on a stove burner. and the glass exploded and a shard of it pierced his heart. There are even those who try to make their own lava lamps. and they are really looking for trouble.

Modern Floor Lamps: 1960s Lava Lamps

By Mr.Andrew Caxton

The lava lamp has survived the 1960s to become a style icon. Whether out of nostalgia or for their soulful retro look, they are still in vogue today.

In terms of interior design the 1960s and 1970s were not decades that particularly made a positive impact. There is however one 1960s piece of decorative kit that holds a special place in my heart. I am referring to the omnipresent lava lamps. Their viscous lumps of wax came in a variety of psychedelic colors. You could find them in purple, lime green, pink and yellow amongst other shades. Lava lamp would become my main focal point whenever there was one around.

Whenever I was in a room with one, my attention went to it automatically, as if I was hypnotized by the suspended, vibrantly colored. I found them to be a completely innocuous pleasure and rather relaxing, especially if combined with Indian music and the scent of burning incense.

People my age buy the lava lamps that are manufactured nowadays out of nostalgia while youngsters are attracted to their retro look. They may be considered tacky and ordinary today but I find them curiously soothing. Maybe it is because they were invented in more buoyant times.

They are still being made today, bought by my generation for reasons of nostalgia and by young people who love the retro look of them. I know they’re trashy and unsubtle but there’s something strangely comforting about them. Perhaps they represent a more optimistic age. I may even possibly purchase one though it would not really sit in well with the rest of my d
