What is Crystal Arthritis?

By Nathan Wei

One of the more difficult diseases to diagnose and treat properly is crystal induced arthritis.

Of the many types of arthritis that can affect multiple joints, crystal-induced, or as it is sometime referred to, crystal associated arthritis, is probably one of the most common. It may cause arthritis in a single joint, two or three joints, or many joints.

When arthritis affects a single joint, it is termed “monoarticular.” When it affects two or three joints is called “oligoarticular.” When the arthritis affects more than three joints, it is called “polyarticular.”

Crystal induced arthritis generally starts as an oligoarticular arthritis but often rapidly becomes polyarticular.

It may be accompanied by other symptoms such as fever and perhaps even chills. Usually, the joint pain from crystal arthritis comes on relatively suddenly and becomes intense after a few hours.

The joints involved swell, become red, become warm, and are exquisitely sensitive and painful. Often times swelling of the joint extends into the soft tissues beyond the joint.

There are three major types of crystal induced arthritis. The most common is gout. Gouty arthritis is due to deposits of monosodium urate (uric acid) crystals. The underlying abnormality is a metabolic defect that leads to over production of uric acid or inability to excrete (get rid of) uric acid.

Gouty arthritis often affects the feet during the first attack. In particular, the great toe joint is classically affected.

Over the course of months and years, attacks become more frequent and more intense. Deposits of uric acid may accumulate near joints and in soft tissues. These are called tophi.

Gout is generally more common in men than women. However, after menopause, women begin to develop gout more frequently. In particular, women who are on diuretic therapy may be susceptible to developing gout.

The danger is that untreated gout can lead to kidney failure.

The second most common type of crystal induced arthritis is calcium pyrophosphate arthritis. This is caused by deposits of calcium pyrophosphate crystals inside the joint. Joints most commonly affected include the shoulders, hips, knees, and wrists.

Calcium pyrophosphate arthritis, because of its symmetry, may be confused for other types of arthritis, particularly rheumatoid arthritis.

What is more confusing is that often times both calcium pyrophosphate arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis co-exist.

Calcium pyrophosphate arthritis is often called pseudogout. Pseudogout attacks most often occur in the knees and wrists. Pseudogout is much more common in people past the age of 60.

The third type of crystal induced arthritis is hydroxyapatite disease. This is a close cousin to calcium pyrophosphate disease.

Identification of the type of crystal induced arthritis is made by examining joint fluid under a polarizing microscope.

The establishment of a correct diagnosis is imperative.

Appropriate treatment may be administered only after a definite diagnosis has been made.

Crystal induced arthritis may be difficult to manage.

In addition to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, intra-articular steroid injection, physical therapy, and occupational therapy may be helpful. Unfortunately, treatments are generally unsatisfactory.

Some practitioners have used drugs such as hydroxychloroquine and methotrexate with some degree of success.

In addition, debridement of the affected joint using arthroscopy may be helpful.

It is my opinion that many people who have osteoarthritis often have crystal induced arthritis as well. This makes management much more difficult.

How To Use Crystal Vibrational Healing

By Paul A. Birnie

Crystals are a unique part of our life. They are used for many things, both spiritual and physical.

For example, quartz crystals are commonly used in battery operated watches to keep time, silicon crystals are grown to make computer chips.

In this article, I am going to explain how you can use crystals as a healing tool through a technique called crystal vibrational healing.

Crystals are self-aware living vibrations of the Universe. Crystal vibrational healing is a frequency, a wave form of energy sent by someone through a crystal to another participant which causes the participant to go back to an energetic state of well-being.

Many people believe that when an individual needs healing, it is because their body is sick. This is not the case. When it comes to healing, we have the perception that it is the body that receives the healing, when in fact it is the frequency of the disease that receives it.

Now, the frequency of our belief system is what creates our state of ‘beingness’, in sickness and in health. When we heal, is the body that is healed? Is it the mind? Is it the emotions? Is it the disease? The truth is that all these aspects of ourselves are extensions and creations of our belief systems.

The belief system is what holds the frequency, and the true creator of ALL this, everything (with no exception!) is YOU!!! We all create our lives, and the circumstances in it, from these belief systems. The key therefore is to know that we are the sole creator of all this.

This means that by using crystal vibrational healing on ourselves, we can change our thoughts, our emotions and our actions. The idea many of us have is that we have to ‘remove’ negative thoughts and feelings. This is not true! What we REALLY need to do is TRANSFORM the thought by feeding it positive thoughts. For example, feed our anger with peace, feed our hate with love and so on.

Once the thought is transformed, the feeling, action and ultimate experience is altered, to reflect your now new found reality, as opposed to your old indoctrinated belief systems. This is the essence of crystal vibrational healing.

The question I hope you are asking yourselves now is: how do I apply this to my everyday life? Let me share with you one way you can use the crystal vibrational healing technique to change any anger you have in your heart into peace.

You will first need to hold a crystal that feels good for you, in the centre of your heart. Make sure that you do no not use a crystal that has been chosen just for its meaning.

Then, sitting in a quiet place with your eyes closed, allow yourself to feel the emotion of anger … feel it in your body until it is at its strongest.

Then, send a thought and emotion of peace through the crystal to your heart, and see it spread through your body. The frequency of the thought and emotion will be amplified by the crystal that you are holding and it will transform the frequency of anger to its well-being state of peace.

This is a technique you can use for almost any situation you are in and wish to change. Such is the power of this crystal vibrational healing technique.

How Lead Crystal Is Made

By Bonnie Spring

Composition

Lead crystal glass is made from a mixture of sand, potash and lead oxide. The type of lead crystal glass is determined by a British specification (BS 3828: 1964) for each type. Lead crystal glass contains a minimum lead oxide content of 24% and is produced primarily for its beauty of appearance. Full lead crystal glass contains higher amounts of lead oxide usually not less than 30%. This higher content of lead oxide enhances the beauty of the item but it is more costly to manufacture.

The Glass Workshop

The workshop where the lead crystal glass making is done is an interesting scene. Workers are stationed in groups around the furnace where the glass is melted. Each group is known as a “chair” and consists of 4 or 5 persons: The “workman”, who is the principal, two who are known as “foot maker” and “servitor” – and one or two boys who are employed in what we would call “gofer” positions. A certain part of the work is assigned to each member of the group, according to the design of the item on which the “chair” is making.

Any lead crystal figurine or other piece begins as a ball of molten glass. This ball is drawn from the pot on the end of a blow-iron, which is a steel tube about 4 ft. long. It is constantly rotated in order to distribute the glass evenly. The molten glass is rolled on a polished iron table to smooth the surface. The glassworker now blows through the tube and the hot glass forms into a hollow sphere. By turning, tilting and swinging the molten glass on the tube the shape begins to develop. The glass is further created as the iron is rolled up and down on the arms of the glassmaker’s chair. Few tools are used in this process – a steel pincers, calipers, shears, wooden measuring sticks and clappers. Once a stem and foot are added to the piece being made it is transferred for further working to steel rod called a pontil, the end of which it is attached by a blob of hot glass. The glass is re-melting before excessive glass is sheared away from the item being made and any final touches are given. The still glowing article is cracked off the rod, dropped into a carrying case and transported to a “lehr” or annealing oven.

Annealing

The annealing oven is a long chamber through which the glass is slowly carried, passing little by little from a high temperature to the ambient temperature of the workshop. This is necessary because the glass could cool too rapidly and shatter the item being created. When removed from the lehr, each article undergoes an examination for any defects. An instrument utilizing polarized light is used to reveal any imperfect annealing.

Cutting

Cutting is one of the more critical processes and calls for a very high degree of skill. Cutting is done by holding the lead crystal figurine against the edge of a revolving cutting wheel. The glass is carefully guided to produce some of the lovely and complex patterns that are possible. The number of patterns is infinite and in combination creates some beautiful effects. The pattern which has been designated on the glass “blank” by specially trained workers, is first roughly cut by the carborundum wheel. The glass is now ready for polishing.

Polishing

Polishing is done by placing the glass into a vat containing a mixture of hydrofluoric and sulphuric acid for about a minute. It is then thoroughly rinsed and the glass transforms into sparkling pieces of crystal.

This is the process that virtually any piece of lead crystal glass goes through before it becomes a beautiful piece of art. Throughout the years little in the process has changed.

You Can Say so Much With Corporate Crystal and Large Chandeliers

By Miles Lovegrove

Are you looking for that perfect corporate gift for a person in your family, a friend, or a business associate? Are you looking for a creative way to award your employees? If you are, then you do have a number of options. However, only one of those options is going to give you the reaction that you deserve when presenting a corporate gift and that is corporate crystal.

Corporate crysta and large chandeliers are very beautiful, which is something you probably don’t have to be told. Maybe you have been in someone’s office and you have seen an award made out of crystal that specifies a certain achievement. Maybe there are several awards and a corporate paperweight made of crystal. Crystal can be laser engraved to say whatever the presenter wants it to say.

For business purposes

Corporate crystal can be used for a number of business purposes just like large chandeliers. Those purposes include as awards and as great gifts. As mentioned before, there are trophies that can be made of corporate crystal. These are fantastic when pointing out a certain achievement. If an employee achieves top sales for the month of January, then the trophy can say something such as, “Top sales for January 2009” or something to that effect. You can actually present these monthly awards and then present an even bigger trophy made of corporate crystal to the person with the top annual sales at the end of the year.

You can also use corporate crystal to be a great gift for your employees. This means that you can give them corporate paperweights or other small items to place upon their desks. You may even wish to have an employee appreciation week and give all of your employees a corporate crystal item to show your appreciation. It is easy to see that the possibilities are virtually endless.

For personal reasons

If you won’t be using corporate crystal for business reasons, then you can use them for personal reasons as well. Maybe you can get dad his own personal award that says, “#1 Dad.” Maybe you could even get mom corporate crystal with a quote or a short poem on it to let her know how much she means to you. The same goes for any family member or your friends.

Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, achievements, and so much more can be great opportunities to present corporate crystal. These items are not just reserved for the business world. They are reserved for anyone who has a purpose for them and we all know that the purposes are many. It all depends on your imagination, but know if you’re ever hard up for a good gift idea, corporate crystal is a great route to take.

Both males and females love crystal, so it isn’t just something that is for one type of person. An individual can be a businessman or businesswoman, a housewife, a blue collar worker, a college student, a high school student, and so much more. Corporate crystal is wonderful for anyone for any occasion. So if you are trying to figure out what to give, you now have the perfect solution to that problem.

Crystal Energy

By Lynn Claridge

Crystal energy can be used to increase the energies that help healing the body and mind. Unbalances in the body’s energy field can be caused by the mind focusing on negative aspects. Crystal energy helps change negative energies and replaces them with positive energies.

Crystal energy affects your body by balancing your body’s energy. I will not be touching here on the use of crystals healing by means of a healer; however, I will focus on the use of crystal energy and the theory behind healing crystals and gemstones.

The theory behind crystal energy is to do with the Quantum theory. The Quantum theory considers the Universe and all things that make it, as existing in an empty space with forms of energy moving within each space. Of course this includes our physical body which is a space with energy flowing infinitely through its own space. Your body’s energy is used when you breath and when you show emotions and thoughts.

The healing processes of crystals and gemstones are considered a special flow of energy that change the way the destructive energy flows. This special flow of energy can be helped by the use of healing crystals and gemstones to improve and speed up the healing processes. Crystals and gemstones can be used as a tool to give the healing flow of energy an important boost in adding power to achieve cures.

Crystal energy and crystals are a tool that can enhance not just your health, but anything you undertake. Although crystals and gemstones occupy a different space than our body and mind, within the Universe there occur an interaction between your body and mind and the energy forms. This interaction is executed through shared properties resulting from the energy flow.

For example, the electromagnetic properties of a Quartz crystal share the same type of electromagnetic properties of the body, thus somehow the crystal’s electromagnetic energy flows can positively interact with the same electromagnetic energy flow of the human body.

The quantum theory helps to explain the effect of crystals and large chandeliers in our psychological and biological life. Even disregarding the Quantum theory, the use of healing crystals and gemstones has been a beneficial practice used by people throughout centuries. This practice is very beneficial for the healing processes.

Crystals and their colors correspond to chakra points in your body. These have been found to have cleansing and energizing properties that interact with the body causing them to work on problem areas. Appling the energy of the crystals and gemstones to the body enhances the cleansing and energizing effect to the body.

Below is a list of the chakras and most popular crystals and large chandeliers used in healing.

Chandeliers – A Lighting Option You Should Consider

By Ciara McGrath

Lighting makes a room. As a quick rule, the more lights or lighting options the better. A chandelier in the center of a ceiling should be one of the options you install if you are doing any room makeover.

Chandeliers were originally designed to hold lots of candles and give a central light in a room. An electric light bulb achieves this more simply. Chandeliers now are decorative objects in their own right.

The effect of a chandelier with lots of light bulbs in a room is stunning. A modern chandelier gives a real touch of class to your space and will excite your guests. It is most important that you shop around and pick one which suits your decor as a wromg choice could be an expensive mistake.

Using Swarovski Crystal Beads to Make a Swarovski Crystal Bracelet

By Adam Hunter

Swarovski crystal beads have been perpetual favourites in jewellery making for over 100 years and their appeal is still as strong today as it was back in Victorian times. These pretty, iridescent crystals catch the light and come in a complete spectrum of colours. They can be incorporated into a wide range of jewellery making projects, but are particularly beautiful when woven into a bracelet.

By interlocking a series of loops incorporating seed beads, pearl beads and Swarovski crystal beads, you can build up a complex looking but simple to make bracelet. By simply passing the needle back through a sequence of beads, a circle is formed that can be linked to a series of similar patterns that come together to create a mesh of beads. Because of the luminescence of the surface of the crystals, this pleasing pattern catches the light beautifully and can look dazzling with more formal eveningwear. To really complete the ensemble, why not create a matching choker picking up the pearl and crystal theme of the bracelet?

For less formal wear, Swarovski crystal beads can be used to create more fun and casual jewellery, including a simple crystal charm bracelet. Adding crystal beads of different colours to a simple charm bracelet type chain gives you an instant mood enhancer even on the dullest of days! These simple bracelets are ideal for little girls, as the crystal beads come in such a huge spectrum of colours that there are bound to be some in your child’s favourite tones. As Swarovski crystal beads are very cheap to buy and easy to use, you can even encourage your children to join in and create their own jewellery. It can start a lifetime love of jewellery making and it’s rare to find a little girl who doesn’t love creating her own jewellery from beads, so why not encourage that creativity?

The simple charm bracelet pattern also has the advantages of being infinitely variable. If you tire of a certain colour combination, all you have to do is remove the crystal beads and replace them with a new colour scheme.

Swarovski crystal beads can also be used as feature beads in bead-loom work. To do this you may have to allow for a certain amount of displacement of the flat-woven seed beads, so it’s best to sketch your design first on grid paper (with each square representing a seed bead to give you a concept of the pattern). This way you can see exactly where in the design your Swarovski crystals will sit and how many seed beads you will have to omit from the pattern to compensate for the displacement and keep the bracelet from distorting.

Swarovski crystal beads have been used in jewellery making for over a century and their continued popularity is testament to the sheer quality and range of jewellery you can design incorporating these iridescent gems. Cheaper than using semi-precious or even precious stones, Swarovski crystals bring a dazzling sparkle to any type of jewellery, even formal eveningwear styles. They can be used to liven up simple jeans and tee shirt or give you a touch of glamour and individualism at work. Through their sheer versatility, it’s no wonder that they remain a perennial favourite in jewellery making.

By Eliza Maledevic

Chandelier is exactly any light that hangs from the ceiling of a home. Most people think about crystal chandelier as they hear the word chandelier.

Most people relate crystal chandeliers with ornate, baroque decorating styles. There are thousands of styles of crystal chandeliers for you to choose from, which you can hang on your dining room, living room or foyer. Whenever you plan to put the crystal chandelier, it will definitely add beauty and spark to your home.

There are some steps that you should follow in purchasing the right crystal chandelier for your home. These would help you to make sure that the crystal chandelier you purchase can fit your home.

You have to measure the height of the room where you will hang your crystal chandelier. The crystal chandelier should not exceed 30 inches above your head. It will appear dwarfed, if you hung it too high.

You have to consider the exact room you prepare to hang your crystal chandelier. Different rooms entitle to have different crystal chandelier style and size. There are some guidelines that you can use in order for you to determine the size. If you will put crystal chandelier to your living room, you have to choose crystal chandelier that is 20 to 30 percent of your living room’s width. If you have to hang it on your entrance hall, you have to choose crystal chandelier that is 30 to 40 percent of your foyer’s width. If you plan to put the crystal chandelier at your dining room, you have to choose crystal chandelier that is 1.5 to 2 feet wide if you have a six person dining table; if your dining table is an eight person, then you have to choose crystal chandelier that is 2.0 to 2.5 feet wide; for 10 to 12 people, you have to choose one that is 2.5 to 3.5 feet wide.

As you add the total watt of all the bulbs of the crystal chandelier when added all together should not exceed to 200 to 400 watts. You have to purchase the right bulbs in order to make sure of your home’s safety. Also if you are going to hang the crystal chandelier, before to do that, you have to check the electric box first and look if it can support additional lights.

You have to choose a crystal chandelier style that will hang not exceeding thirty inches above your table tops. You have to choose a style of crystal chandelier that emphasis the architectural style of your home rather than the dull ordinary side to it and this way you will make the most of your chandelier choice.
