BulbAmerica Expands its Line of Halogen Mild Bulbs to Give Customers A lot more Alternatives for High Doing Energy Productive Lighting

Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) December 14, 2010

Are environmentally friendly light bulbs doing consumers more harm than good? In the April/May 2010 issue of Architectural Lighting, Elizabeth Donoff, ALs editor, expressed uneasiness concerning the transition to eco-friendly lighting, stating, What is of greatest concern to me is that this switch in lighting sources can be simplified to an either-or proposition. Donoff observed that the attention and praise that CFL and LED bulbs have earned from the media and the public has forced a steady stream of technologically immature products onto the market while keeping higher performing lighting options from consumers views. One of the most consistently high performing and environmentally friendly light sources are halogen light bulbs, a technology often overlooked amidst demands for new eco-friendly lighting. As Donoff noted, and BulbAmericas lighting experts agree, the adoption of halogen bulbs is a step consumers can take toward home energy efficiency.

Lasting anywhere from 2,000 hours to 12,000 hours, halogen light bulbs achieve life hour ratings significantly better than incandescent bulbs but when compared to CFLs and LEDs underperform. BulbAmericas Lighting experts and industry leaders have found that this underperformance is often exaggerated because consumers have been encouraged to focus too much on how long a bulb lasts rather than its efficiency and disregard what the actual qualities of light of LED and CFL bulbs are. With regard to efficiency, or luminous efficacy (lm/W), halogen bulbs have an efficiency rating of between 10-30lm/W and LED light bulbs a rating of anywhere between 17 lm/W to 49 lm/W. This means that halogen bulbs can perform as well and sometimes better than LED bulbs. Though the efficiency of LED bulbs is promising, studies by consumer advocacy groups have found that there is little performance uniformity among LED bulbs: some are high performing whereas others do not even outperform incandescent bulbs. Though CFLs are more efficient than both halogen and LED bulbs, they use small amounts (1mg 5mg) of mercury, a neurotoxin, and thus present environmental concerns.

So where do halogen bulbs surpass LEDs and CFLs? BulbAmericas lighting experts observed it is in color faithfulness and their breadth of application. With regard to color faithfulness, or the color rendering index (CRI), LEDs and CFLs are inconsistent. A 2009 report by the Pacific Northwest Laboratory for the US Department of Energy found that LED replacement bulbs for directional MR16s and more diffuse light sources like A-shape bulbs had CRI scores at best 85 and at worst below 70. In other words, LED replacement bulbs may not be able to accurately display the colors in your home, restaurant, or store. Though CFLs fare slightly better than LEDs, halogens are by and large the best choice when color is important, such as in spaces like a kitchen or retail environment. BulbAmericas latest halogen bulbs from Philips, GE, Osram, Ushio and others are offered in nearly every shape from candelabra to T3 with CRI scores of 100 or very close to it, meaning that these bulbs portray color identically to daylight colors. Another advantage of halogens over LEDs and CFLs is that halogens produce a versatile light. In low voltage 12v MR16s, halogens can produce a highly focusable light perfect for spot or broader beams, whereas in PAR shapes halogen bulbs are exceptional for flood lighting and general illumination. LEDs have long struggled as general light sources and CFLs are inconsistent as directional light sources. Though LEDs and CFLs may be the longest lasting and most efficient, sometimes they are simply the wrong choice in certain applications and consumers lighting may suffer because of it. Halogens on the other hand are found in nearly all applications from stage & studio lighting to surgical and medical lighting. With respect to LED replacement bulbs, a 2010 report for the US Department of Energy on LED bulbs found that many of them do not correspond to the dimensions of the shapes they are replacing as specified by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) codes. What this means is that an LED MR16 intended for a specific track lighting fixture may not fit it even though the LED MR16 has the same ANSI letter-code as the bulb it is replacing. Having been around for a long time, halogen bulbs conform to all industry standards and their use will certainly reduce consumers headaches in finding replacement light bulbs that fit their existing fixtures.

Natural Beauty on a Budget – No-Cost and Low-Cost Techniques For Beautiful Skin

By D.S. Braun

Ok, no matter WHAT the ads tell you, the BEST things you can do for your skin are:

1) Drink plenty of water

2) Get enough quality rest

3) Minimize Stress – and don’t STAY stressed – breathe, Meditate, dance, whatever it takes to de-stress (and always remember to laugh!)

4) Good nutrition – you’d think this would be a ‘duh’ – but it really is one of the most often over-looked must-do’s

5) Exercise – yes, exercise – walking, running, aerobics, Yoga – heck I blast my 80s rock and 70s disco while the kids are at school and dance like an idiot while no one is home to watch! No one says exercise has to be boring, ritualized nor uniform. And, dancing has the added benefit of being FUN.

6) Take a quality Multi-Vitamin and Mineral supplement and please don’t forget to supplement with Omega-3 Fish Oils and Flax Oil. You’ll be amazed at the difference in your skin.

7) LOVE YOUR SKIN – ok, this sounds silly, but I’m serious. Thought creates reality. What the mind professes, the body expresses. Love your skin. Massage it, caress it, LOVE IT.

Now, for some no- and low-cost solutions for your skin….

1) Facial massage. Forget the creams for a minute. The single thing (besides general good health) that will benefit your face? Massage. Seriously. Wrinkles? Massage them. Sagging jaws? Massage them. Double chin? Again, Massage. Now, you can do this with your finger tips, with your favorite *rounded end* crystal or even with an electro-acupuncture device. But, bottom line is, massage!

You can combine the following facial exercises with your Skin Care program. Due to the fact that skin responds well to this type of stimulation, you will see results in lines, complexion, tone and elasticity. As an added bonus, this type of massage strengthens the underlying muscles and results in the signs of aging becoming diminished.

Use the balls of your fingertips as well as the palms of your hands. For all exercises, use gentle, but firm, pressure – this is not supposed to hurt!

If you notice that some spots you massage are tender this means you are probably hitting the precise spots. Tenderness will diminish and disappear altogether with time.

Toning around the eyes

Using your favorite Moisturizer or essential oil blend, use your middle fingers to work around each eye simultaneously. Use slight pressure – be gentle with the eye area – and circle the eyes from the inside corner of your eyebrows, following the entire eyebrow, and back around to where you started.

Repeat this circular massage 30-35 times (in one sitting) each day.

This type of stimulation of the facial muscles will tone, relax and increase Circulation to the eye area, which in turn results in diminished signs of aging.

Revitalizing the Eyes

In this exercise, the Acupressure point at the side of your face, approximately 1/4 inch past the outside corner of your eye (this is right on the outer curve of the bone around the eye), is stimulated. The second point to stimulate is directly in line and under your pupil on the top edge of the cheekbone.

This massage can soften lines and Wrinkles in the eye area. Starting with the corner points, press each simultaneously for 3 seconds and then release for a count of three. Do this 30 times and then move on to the point on the cheek bone. Do all of this in one sitting and repeat these sets 3 times a day if possible.

2) Water – yes, yes, I know I spouted off about water before, but it’s important. Internally AND externally. Make SURE you wash your face twice a day – finishing the wash with a cool water rinse. And, when you have a few spare minutes….don’t just hastily put the cleanser on and rinse off – take a couple minutes to massage your face – during the wash and during the rinse.

3) Oxygen – I know this sounds silly, but oxygen is important – as a matter of fact, it’s crucial. So, BREATHE – breathe deep and long. Start by breathing in for a count of 4 and out for a count of four – do this five times. See if you can work your way up to a count of 15 – practice it throughout the day, but do it at *least* once a day. Sun and free radicals aren’t the only things that cause Wrinkles, ya know – stress does too. And what do we do when stressed? We breath more shallow, our heart rate goes up, our digestion stops, our blood pressure goes up and blood is diverted to the limbs from all ‘non-essential’ body systems. Bring the blood and oxygen back – BREATHE. Speaking of oxygen… try to get some fresh air each day too!

We all want to believe the marketing hype – that we can find eternal youth in jars and tubes. But really, the secrets are so much more basic. Good nutrition, exercise, attitude and simple, natural techniques which can improve your health and take years off of your appearance.

MR11 Light Bulbs

By Kimberly Quang

MR11 bulbs can be used in your low voltage lighting design. These lamps have a multifaceted reflector, which is basically a pressed glass reflector. The interior parts of these bulbs are reflective and are made up of facets and a reflective coating. The facets provide a source of optical control since they have the ability to gather the light to form a single concentrated light beam. Some MR11 lamps have a smooth interior without the facets, but are still categorized as MR bulbs. Residents should always find a quality retailer of MR11 bulbs before making their final purchase.

A single-ended quartz halogen filament capsule operates MR11 lamps. These bulbs are 11/8” (1.38”) in diameter and have a 2-pin base, along with low voltage capabilities. The size of the lamp is an important thing to consider before you start on your lighting design. Other lamps besides the MR11 come in different sizes. The 16 style for example is 16 eighths of an inch or 2 inches in diameter. The 8 version is 1 inch or 2.5 centimeters in length.

The 11-style bulb is perfect for your low voltage lighting theme. These bulbs typically use less than 120 volts, and most only need 12 volts to operate effectively. Some can even function at 6 volts, while others may require 24 volts depending upon your selection. Residents should always purchase a transformer with their MR11 bulb to reduce the line voltage for the lamp. Improvements in technology have brought about a different kind of 11style bulb that has an integrated transformer built into the device. Using a commercial style dimmer can dim these fixtures.

Residents should also take the beam spread into account when purchasing one of these fixtures. The beam spread is defined as the width of a light beam, represented in degrees. An MR lamp’s beam spread can be thought of as a cone. The beam spread shows the angular width of the cone. Homeowners may prefer a narrow, spot, or flood type of beam spread depending upon their needs. Some bulbs may have to have the lamp replaced to accommodate for the beam spread. If this is the case, RLLD has numerous lenses and louvers to accommodate your requirements. These devices spread the light out or shield the illumination around objects. Halogen lamps could be thought of as the beginning phase in the strides toward light bulb modernization.

Residents typically use MR11 lamps for landscape lighting, but these bulbs can be used within the home, as well. RLLD has excellent landscape wiring if you are thinking about illuminating your outdoor environment. We have special direct burial cables designed with UV and weather resistant materials for your convenience. We also have numerous other cable and wire devices that come in a variety of lengths, and will give the homeowner the long-lasting durability they deserve. Don’t forget to check out our cool color lenses for your MR11 lamps. These lenses come in red, blue, yellow, green, and golden amber. We also have special UV lenses to protect your cherished works of art. Dazzling, brilliant, and long lasting, RLLD’s product line will simply blow you away!
