Energy Saving Light Bulbs – The Next Steps

Energy saving light bulbs are now a popular choice for environment and cost conscious homes and businesses within the UK. However, the current financial situation has meant that, for some, the replacement of incandescent light bulbs for energy efficient lighting is now more of a necessity than a choice. Also, current EU regulations have seen the gradual phase-out of traditional filament bulbs. The phasing out of these inefficient bulbs could make a noticeable difference to national and European energy consumption. Energy saving lamps are also known as Compact Florescent Lamps or ‘CFLs’.

People making the change to energy efficient light bulbs in the UK will not be disappointed. The current range of energy saving bulbs and lighting on offer throughout the UK is impressive, varied and can be bought at an inexpensive price.

Energy saving light bulbs have certainly come a long way since they were first introduced. Early energy saving lamps were usually only available in a few shapes like the spiral and tubular types. The complaint was that they didn’t look aesthetically pleasing in the original fittings where they were being fitted. The other issues were that the colour was dull and they flickered when switched on. There is now a new generation of eco bulbs, available in many different shapes, sizes, light colour and wattages.

The shapes available are reassuring to the design conscious eye as they look good in existing fittings. Modern shapes of eco light bulb include Globe, Candle, Golf Ball and GLS (General Lighting Service), plus lots more. What many don’t realize when buying energy efficient light bulbs is that the Lumens value of a bulb should always be considered. The Lumens value of a light bulb is its actual brightness, its luminosity if you will. Many early CFLs had a very low lumens value and were therefore very dull. Now, the manufacturers of the energy saver bulbs know that a higher lumens value is better.

Each energy efficient light bulb has an equivalent wattage to an incandescent light bulb. This value is usually over exaggerated on many companies packaging. However, due to an EC directive, all low energy lighting packaging has to realistically comply to the actual equivalent wattages. The correct wattage equivalent is about 4 times the CFL value. For example an energy efficient bulb with 10w would be equal to 40w filament bulb. Some energy saving lights are ‘energy rated A’; this is the highest energy efficient rating. This will be displayed on the eco bulb packaging.

The main advantage with saving energy by replacing your old light bulbs is the drop you’ll notice in your electricity bills with the use of CFL bulbs resulting in up to an 80% energy saving.

Other low energy lighting solutions are available, such as halogen light bulbs and LED lighting. Energy saving GU10s are also available as well as various spotlights and outdoor lighting. You can even spread energy savings to outside with energy saving floodlights!

Low Cost Secured Loan: Higher The Security, Lower Is Your Cost!

By Marsha Claire

Anything with security or assurance gets you the best deals around. This statement can be well exemplified with situations like these: A job interview where you get the post simply because you assured your boss that you would work hard or maybe an election where a certain candidate wins because he assures his people of the country’s welfare and fulfilling his responsibilities. Same is the case with loans in the finance market. As soon as you assure your lender that you will repay the loaned amount on time and in full, without giving him the slightest cause for concern, her is going to make your ride a smooth one! Equating Low Cost Secured Loans on the same lines may make no sense at all, but what I’m trying to put across is that as soon as you offer assurance, you are bound to get the best possible outcome.

Low Cost Secured Loans, the name itself tells you that these are not your regular secured loans, but those that involve a lower cost. It may seem weird that such loans exist because if they do, why would anyone take a regular secured loan? The answer is simple – more assurance or a stronger guarantee, i.e. higher valued collateral. Collateral with a small amount in it may not give your lender the desired assurance. High valued collateral, an exceptional credit record and a promising repaying potential – a combination of these is what gets you a Low Cost Secured Loan. Simply put, more the guarantee, better the benefits.

Something you must know about Low Cost Secured Loans is that higher the equity in your collateral, more are the benefits you can get out of the loan. Benefits can be as follows:

• More the collateral value, more is the amount you can get approved as a loan. Although the regular limit is ₤75,000, using higher valued collateral can stretch this amount up to ₤1,00,000 too.

• More the equity in your collateral lower is your interest rate and lower is the cost of your loan.

• Higher the collateral value, longer is your loan term, which means you have a longer time frame within which you need to repay the entire amount. The usual time frame is 3 to 25 years.

• On the same lines, more flexible are your repayment options.

Besides the value of your collateral, lenders also check on your past credit record before considering granting you a Low Cost Secured Loan. This is simply to see whether you have kept to your prior financial commitments. A typical good credit score is assumed to be above 760, while a score that can have any kind of negative impact lies below 600. A good credit statement assures your lender furthermore of your promising repaying capacity, he therefore freely lowers interest even further and is once again ready to offer you a better deal – one that is going to involve a lower cost.

Along with all this, simply making a better presentation of your case does matter. Firstly you yourself need to be assured that you really the money because it’s not only getting the loan that matters but also sticking to it’s repayments. Stacking up your cash assets, being in full time employment and showing fewer other financial obligations also help in putting up a stronger case. Not only will your lender be assured of your being genuine, he will willingly offer you lower rates, extended terms and flexible loan options. Every one of these play an important role in further lowering the cost of your Low Cost Secured Loan.

And finally, getting your Low Cost Secured Loan from the right lender is what matters the most. Different lenders are going to offer you different rates and options, depending on what they are looking for. It is ultimately you to choose the ideal lender, and this can only happen once you know what the rates being offered by other lenders are. You therefore need to survey the market extensively with regard to rates, loan terms, collateral, documents, etc. It is only your groundwork that can better your Low Cost Secured Loan for you.

Modern Light Bulbs

By Kimberly Quang

What is the future of light bulbs? Many people might deny knowledge of this lighting category, but at Residential Landscape Lighting and Design we are on the cutting edge of the latest in light bulb technology available for your home or business. You will find a large selection of bulbs with efficiencies and brightness that Edison of which Edison would never have dreamed.

So what are the most modern of light bulbs? There are several types which rest on the cutting edge of technology. One category of modern light bulbs is that of high-intensity discharge (HID) lights. There are four main sorts of bulbs in this area. These include: high-pressure sodium lamps, metal halide lamps, mercury vapor lamps, and low-pressure sodium lamps. Metal halide lamps and mercury vapor lamps work in very similar manners. Mercury vapor lamps have a bit of mercury enclosed in the bulb. When electricity charges the mercury – which is a metal and acts as a conductor – the mercury creates a glowing vapor inside the bulb. Metal halide lamps are different only in the fact that they have another type of metal halide in with the mercury. The result is that metal halide lamps have double the efficiency of mercury vapor lamps.

For the highest efficiency of all our light bulbs take a look at our high-pressure sodium lamps. These light bulbs produce indoor, efficient lighting by electrically charging sodium vapor inside the bulb. The light from high-pressure sodium bulbs is perfect for any environment where the color of what is illuminated is important. We do not have low-pressure sodium lamps due to the poor quality of the light’s color. Street lighting, where color is not as high a priority is the main use for low-pressure sodium lamps.

Other light bulbs on the cutting edge are halogen lamps and LED lights. Halogen lamps could be thought of as the beginning phase in the strides toward light bulb modernization. This is because these work the same way that incandescent bulbs do. The difference is that these are much longer lasting due to the addition of halogen inside the bulb. This actually keeps the filament inside the light bulb from burning out. The latest in lighting, though, are LED lights. These are extremely energy efficient. They are like mini-bulbs that produce light through a tiny microchip with a semiconductor on it inside the light bulb. The light that they give uses much less energy than any other type of light bulb.

The most common usage for metal halide lamps is in outdoor applications. This is due to the amount of time it takes for these bulbs to become fully lit and the waiting period that is required before relighting them. When you first turn on your metal halide light bulb, you might notice that the color seems to be off and it might even change. This will only last for about five to ten minutes and it is quite normal. This happens as a result of the increasing temperature and pressure inside the bulb which are required for full operation. Temperature and pressure are also why you must wait about five to ten minutes after turning off the metal halide lamp before relighting it.
